Celebrating Hot Sauce Depot’s 10-Year Anniversary By Giving Back To The Community

10 Years in Texas

It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since Rick and Dawn started Hot Sauce Depot. It started as a small offshoot from their home brewing/distilling business, selling hot sauces through their Brewhaus website. The sauces became so popular on their own that they finally had to create a separate site just for those, and Hot Sauce Depot was born.

Their warehouse has been here in Keller, TX for about 15 years now, first only housing Brewhaus products, and now including Hot Sauce Depot’s products as well. To celebrate the anniversary, they wanted to do something special to give back to the local community, but they weren’t sure how to do it. Donate hot sauce to someplace? Host a big BBQ? They wanted to do something bigger and better.

Giving Back to Our Community

Rick and Dawn aren’t native Texans—and neither am I—but Texas has been good to all of us. There’s that saying, “I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could!” So they finally decided to do something that would benefit more Texans that just our immediate community: They're offering a $500 scholarship to a student attending a Texas university/college/technical school next year. We’re calling it our Texas Scholars Program, and students can apply online. You just need to be a U.S. citizen or legal resident, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and be currently accepted to or enrolled in an accredited Texas university, college, or technical school. There’s a brief form to fill out and then you have to write a short essay explaining why you think the scholarship should go to you.

One great thing about this scholarship is that the funds will be distributed directly to the student rather than to the school. This enables the student to use the funding on a variety of educational materials, including tuition, books, and even housing. The application deadline is November 30, and we’ll award the scholarship in early December, just in time to ease one lucky student’s mind before he or she goes home for the holidays!

Many students are unaware that they can receive funding from outside scholarships that are awarded through foundations or companies (like us!), so please help spread the word. If you know anyone who will be attending college in Texas next year, share this with them! It’s just a short essay and an application, and they have the chance of receiving $500 for school that they won’t have to pay back after they graduate. Good luck!
